I must have found a (virtual) four-leaf clover because May has been my lucky month! And it’s not over yet. Between winning picture books and having two Haikus published, to entering an exciting picture book mentor contest, May is full of luck that just won’t quit.
First, I won two picture books through FB and Twitter contests. A big thank you to Laurel Ranveig Abell, who sent us the lovely “When the Sky is Like Lace,” by Elinor Lander Horwitz and pictures by Barbara Cooney, and Sharon Giltrow, who’s gifting me “When the Waterhole Dries Up,” by Kaye Baillie, illustrated by Max Hamilton, ©2021, from Windy Hollow Press. The kidlit community is so generous. My granddaughter is the lucky beneficiary of these books.
I had two springtime Haikus published in the Asahi Haiku Network. Check them out here and here. It is such an honor to be published in the Asahi Haiku Network based in Japan, home of Haiku.
And a longer Haiku I wrote may be part of an academic paper! Exciting!
I hope my luck continues as I entered the PBChat Mentorship contest recently—585 creators are vying for 23 spots. Justin Colón, a Latinx children’s author and active SCBWI member represented by Jennifer March Soloway of the Andrea Brown Literary Agency, runs this exciting contest. He’s also the founder and host of PBChat, a free weekly Twitter chat and annual mentorship program for picture book creators.

I’ll let you know in June if my luck continues…
Dear Dina, I looked for them but couldn’t find them. How is Riley doing? Bernice
